Difference between Radial & Bias Tyre

The difference between the Radial and Bias tires is the belt construction. The material in both the structures is different and the material defines its performance.

Radial:

Radial tires have steel belts that run at a 90-degree angle with a tread line. It allows the sidewall and the tread to function separately. The sidewall flexes less and the contact with ground increases.

    Advantages:

  • Better Fuel-efficiency.
  • Performs great on highways with load.
  • Has wide shoulder which keeps the vehicle stable.
  • Increased durability.
  • Smoother drive.

Bias:

In bias tires, the nylon belts work at 30 to 45 degree angle. It has several plies in between connected to the sidewall and tread. The tire internal structure is stiff and it has less contact with the ground and it may overheat after a long run.

    Advantages:

  • Strong sidewalls because of crosshatch construction.
  • Are not that expensive.
  • High load capacity.
  • Easy to repair.

What is better Radial or Bias Tire?

According to the different surveys the consumer prefers Radial over Bias construction because it provides smoother drive and better fuel efficiency. It is a little expensive but the quality is better in the comparison of bias as its durability makes it cost-effective. Nowadays most vehicles have radial construction tires and if you have a non-commercial vehicle radial is suitable. In agricultural machinery, Bias structure is preferred and used most of the time. Choose wisely when it comes to tires.
